Friday~1st Day/Monitoring (day 8 of the 14 day period)

The white blood count that came in today was 0.3, pretty close to the 0 they are looking for. They say that it may never get all the way to 0 but they get it as low as they can. His hemoglobin is low and the two units of blood he had didn't budge it one bit so they will give him more. When it gets low he is very tired and short of breath. Steve now has to wear a mask when he leaves the room and visiting will be more limited. This type of treatment compromises the immune system and leaves him more susceptible to diseases...so no colds or sickness allowed.

On another half note our daughter Stephanie just told me she thought she might be coming down with a chest cold...it's her birthday and the last day of school where she is a teaching assistant. Of course I gave her a bunch of motherly advice but I hope you'll please pray for her too and the other kids and spouses. Steph (or Sis as we affectionately call her) is the one who sent me the closing line I'm using right now for this blog, "The Lord Our Banner". She told me when the Isrealites were in trouble and ran for refuge to the strong tower they would run up a banner. Sounds right to me.

The Lord Our Banner

P.S. From the sunroom I can see the purple haze that is beginning to form on the lavender cross in the field, signs that bloom and harvest time are nearing.

  1. "At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day"

    Psalm 68:19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.

    Thinking of you all. Hang in there Steve.

  2. Steve and Dawn, I love chapter 4 of Nehemiah. (the whole book actually)It talks about how they divided the men up. Some worked on the wall, some stood guard with spears, shields, bows and armor. They were spread out all around Jerusalem. One held the trumpet to announce the enemy. When the trumpet was sounded, they all came together to fight the enemy. 20"Wherever you hear the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!" What an army you have. We have heard the sound of the trumpet, we have gathered together in the mighty name of God, the Father. A war rages. God is the victor. Amen.

  3. I'm soon off to work for the night...rest well - BOTH of you (Dawn, blogging at 2AM and again at 6AM would suggest you aren't sleeping too much)

    In any case, know that you are still very much in our thoughts and prayers as you wait for the next steps. Rest in Him and know that He will continue to work in you.

    The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
    He will not grow tired or weary
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
    He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
    Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
    but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint." Is 40:28-31

    Prayers for continued rest and renewal,
    Cheri and Carl

  4. Hi good neighbor! Steve, it sounds like you're
    getting a gain on this ungodly clinch. As I see it, you are one up on the enemy!
    The weeds will not be established in the "home rows", if I have anything to say about it! We are fighting the battle together. Stay Positive, just like "Wilbur" (Charlotte's Web), and watch GOD work in ALL of our lives!!! Praying fervently for YOU and YOURS... the Wrights.
