I didn't get to blog yesterday so I will combine yesterday and today. Every morning around 8:30 am "The Team", which consists of the attending doctor, nurse practitioner, and shadowing doctors called fellows. They check on how Steve is doing, discuss with him and I the procedures that are taking place, and tell us what the latest thinking is on what type of transplant is best for him. They said that Steve is just right on the grey line as far as which kind of treatment would work best for him. They took a bone marrow biopsy when we came in to see what his marrow currently looked like and are checking on what type of donor matches are available for him. It would probably take minimum 6-7 weeks to get a donor match and have stem cells available if they go that route. Of course an autologous transplant (his own cells) would be the best but may reinfect him with fibrosis so that is what all the hubbub (Steves word for it) is about.
So that is the jist of things and now that he is on his last day of chemo he is starting to feel pretty rough. He couldn't sleep last night after being woke up with kidney pain and he is also losing is appetite. He is resting right now but on the restless side, they gave him some pain meds and antibiotics so I think that will help soon.
Thank you for the prayers regarding the type of transplant decision, I am trusting that God will give wisdom and they will have Steve's best interest at heart.
Trusting In The Lord,
Dawn
