It is much harder to give an update on Steve when I haven't been in the room with him, I am at home getting some things done here and looking in on the lavender field. I speak to him regularly to see how he is feeling and today he said he was doing okay. Sounds like he is eating most of his meals now, even if he still can't taste much. They say to try and find something that sounds good and stick with that. For awhile that was biscuits and gravy, until one morning I heard him say they were wearing out there welcome. Now he is eating more of a variety but is restricted from fresh fruits and vegetables because of the risk of bacteria on the food. With his anc (absolute nutrafill count) counts so low he has a high risk of infection so until that comes up he has to take precautions and everyone has to wash their hands often so as not to spread germs.
They said his counts are starting to move a little on their own which is a good sign and as soon as his anc comes up to .5 (500) he can come home and see the local oncologist doctor as an outpatient. He may have his regular maintence chemotherapy at the local hospital also but will go back to Fort Wayne from time to time especially for the next bone morrow test. It is not clear to us when he will have that next test but it will be important in telling us what his own body is doing now.

Hey there, our family is thinking of you often! I am very inspired by your faith and enjoy hearing your updates. Reading your blog about Uncle Steve playing his harmonica for the nurses and patients to hear is pretty neat. He will make a lasting impression for all of them and they will miss him when he gets to go home.

Psalm 63:3 - 8
ReplyDeleteBecause thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
We love you and are praying for provision for your every need today!!
Praying...dear friends.

Thanks for taking the time to share what is going on with Uncle Steve. Dad informed us a little while back to start PRAYING!! Uncle Steve is exactly right about God being in control! Aunt Dawnie, you inspire me. Reminds me a lot of my Mom. I would like to share with you some verses that she taught me through our own personal trials. I pray you find the same encouragement and comfort that we found and still do! We love you, and know even though we are physically far away, our hearts and prayers are right next to you - wherever that is.

Psalm 27:14 - Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Phil 4:4 - Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice.
2 Corithians 12:8-10 - Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
